Reported very late to office today. At 3 pm.Wish I had a routine, man.
I can't even get myself to go to Pune.Maybe I should just get my ticket booked, maybe then, out of compulsion I will make myself go there.
Well, had been to Sandhurst Rd. yesterday to meet one of my Dad's Steel supplier merchants. What an experience,it was.Had been to Sandhurst Rd. only once before-J.J.Hospital side.I never knew Walkeshwar was only a little distance away from there.Although that Steel merchant's office was very tiny,it also had seen a lot of business. My dad had told me that the guy had made tons of cash in his business. But looking at him or his office, you would never say that.
Another thing that amazed me was that the guy had even gotten both his sons to leave their education and get them to help him out in the business. He was afterall a Gujrati. The thing I learnt about these Gujrati businessmen was that they had a lot of similarity with the Italian Mafia families in way of going about their business. Some of the similarities I observed were that-
a.)They tend to keep out non-family members from entering their business.
b.)They have a traditional heirarchial system in place-with the head of the family also heading the organisation.
c.)Also, they have support from their community.ie., whenever someone from the community wants to start a business he can approach the members of the community for capital.Usually they start out in a particular field and quickly create a niche for themselves in that field by gathering important contacts.
d.)Also they do not rely solely on the traditional banking sector, but have their own system of credit and loans- preferring to deal usually in cash, whereby they can avoid taxes.
Ok,so how do I know so much about the Italian Mafiosa, you ask.I have solely based my knowledge on American novels concerning the mafia-one of the novels being ' THE GODFATHER '.
Coming back to the topic,I learn that the steel trader had gotten both his sons married off by the time they were in their late teens, because of which they gave up on their education and concentrated more on the business. Also when one of the sons- Gautam heard that I had not managed to clear my papers in the second year and had failed,he thought that I, too, had stopped my education and was going to help my dad in the family business!
Well, i tried to explain to him that I would be continuing my education from the next year onwards, but he had that 'why-bother?' look in his eyes.
Well, the thing is that studies don't interest me much either, but you see i have to atleast complete my graduation ,otherwise I have to go on with my life, ruing the fact that I never had the guts to complete something as important as a college education.
Hmmm ....have to get down to buying a new set of strings for my guitar. One of my friends (Mr. 15 Gb) broke the first string(the thinnest one), and now I have to get the whole set before I start playing.Gee whiz, man!I wish I had practiced my chords, when I had the time. I never took it seriously and though I could do it on my own. I always thought that I could practice these things on my own, without the help of any tutors. But ,that was where I made a mistake. Sometimes one needs to be in the company of fellow students having similar interests while learning things like these. It also helps to get motivated sometimes when one's mood is down and one doesn't feel like practicing. Besides, one can get some tips and advice from fellow students and the learning process is hastened!
Hmmm....instead of the french class I now feel I should join a CAD class soon.It will be more beneficial and I can know whether it really takes that much amount of time to get a drawing done in the office. And yeah,It will help me on my field(CIVIL) too.
Okay.Hope to blog again tomorrow.Maybe even this blogging may help me to get into a schedule.
